Men’s Basketball: Roadrunners Fall At Fort Lewis

MSU Denver’s win streak snapped at four

Durango, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team was defeated by No. 20 Fort Lewis by a score of 77-63 on Saturday.  The Roadrunners fall to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in the RMAC while Fort Lewis improves to 11-1 overall and 6-1 in the RMAC.

MSU Denver was led by junior Andre Harris (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb H.S.).  Harris posted a double-double on the night with 18 point and 13 rebounds.  Seniors Tony Dobbinson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill H.S.) and DeShawn Phenix (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley H.S.) were also in double-figures with 15 points and 12 points, respectively.  Sophomore Peter Møller (Værløse, Denmark/Falkonergårdens Gymnasium) finished the game with 10 points.

The Roadrunners were able to take a 7-6 lead following a jumper by Phenix with 16:54 to go in the first half.  Fort Lewis picked up its scoring and went on a 16-0 run over the next six minutes to take a 22-7 lead.  MSU Denver responded with an 8-0 run including five straight points by Harris.  The Roadrunners trailed 37-28 at halftime.

The second half was back-and-forth with the Roadrunners able to trim the Fort Lewis lead to 43-40 after a Harris layup with 14:04 to play.  Fort Lewis responded once again with a 10-0 run.  The Roadrunners were unable to close the gap and Fort Lewis was able to grow the lead in the second half to as many as 18.

MSU Denver will face Colorado Mesa at 7 p.m. on Friday, January 8 at the Auraria Event Center.
