Spearfish, S.D. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team defeated Black Hills State 67-64 on Friday night. The Roadrunners improve to 10-8 overall and 8-4 in the RMAC while Black Hills State falls to 9-7 overall and 7-5 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by senior
Tony Dobbinson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill H.S.) with 22 points. Sophomore Peter Moller added 16 points. Junior
Andre Harris (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb H.S.) led the team in rebounds with nine.
MSU Denver's three-point shooting kept the Roadrunners in the game in the first half. The Roadrunners hit 6-of-9 three-point attempts including 4-of-6 by Dobbinson. Dobbinson had 14 points at the break. Black Hills State would shoot 48 percent from the field in the half going 12-of-25 from the field. The Roadrunners trailed 32-27 at halftime.
In the second half, MSU Denver was able to chip away at the Black Hills State lead. The Roadrunners would go on a 16-4 to build a 54-47 lead. MSU Denver would not allow a Black Hills State field goal for over 12 minutes in the second half. The Roadrunners were able to make free throws down the stretch going 8-of-10 from the line over the final 1:30 to secure the victory.
MSU Denver will travel to Rapid City, S.D. on Saturday, January 23 to take on S.D. School of Mines. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
