Rapid City, S.D. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team knocked off S.D. Mines on Saturday night, 71-70 to improve to 11-8 overall and 9-4 in the RMAC. S.D. Mines falls to 7-10 overall and 5-8 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by senior
Tony Dobbinson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill H.S.) with 25 points. Sophomore Peter Moller scored 13 points and junior
Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) and freshman Enrique Cortes Zotes each added 11 points. Cortes Zotes led the team in rebounding with six.
MSU Denver was able to hold S.D. Mines to only eight points in the first ten minutes. The Roadrunners twice built a 12 point lead in the first half. S.D. Mines would continue to keep the game close throughout the first half. MSU Denver would lead 32-24 at the half.
The second half see the Roadrunners continue to maintain their lead. The final minute of the game proved to be a high-scoring affair. S.D. Mines would score ten points in the final minute of the game, however, MSU Denver would hit their final six free throws to hold off S.D. Mines.
MSU Denver will return home to face New Mexico Highlands on Friday, January 29 at the Auraria Event Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
