Denver – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team defeated Westminster on Friday by a scoreof 62-42. The Roadrunners move to 7-8 overall and 5-4 in the RMAC while the Griffins drop to 5-8 overall and 2-7 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners were led by sophomore
Hannah Stipanovich (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton H.S.) with 12 points. Sophomore
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore
Jenae Paine (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City H.S.) also added 10 points.
MSU Denver set the tone of the game early outscoring Westminster 11-3 to start the first quarter. The Roadrunners would build a 10 point lead following a bucket by sophomore
Emily Hartegan (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East H.S.). MSU Denver would lead 18-10 after the first quarter.
The second period would see Westminster battle back and hit a three-point basket at the end of the half to cut the Roadrunners lead to four. MSU Denver would go into the locker room with 28-24 lead.
MSU Denver would take control of the game in the third quarter. The Roadrunners held the Griffins to only seven points and didn't allow Westminster to score for over five minutes. The third quarter ended with the Roadrunners up 46-31.
The Roadrunners continued to dominate in the fourth quarter. MSU Denver outscored Westminster 16-11 in the final period. The Roadrunners outrebounded the Griffens by 13 on the night, 45-32.
MSU Denver will play Colorado Christian on Friday, January 15 at 5 p.m. at the Auraria Event Center.
