Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team (16-3, 11-0 RMAC) remained undefeated in conference play after a 3-1 win at crosstown rival Regis University (12-8, 7-4 RMAC) on Tuesday, October 18.

The twenty-third ranked Roadrunners went down early to the Rangers after a 25-21 loss in the first set. MSU Denver started the match with a .103 hitting percentage, but were led by sophomore
Santaisha Sturges (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) who finished with 3.5 points and three kills in the set.

MSU Denver refused to quit in the second set against the Rangers. The two teams continued to exchange potential set points until the Roadrunners were able to get the win 32-30 to even the match at 1-1 off a Sturges kill.

Just as the set before, the two teams traded blows to extend the set until a 28-26 Roadrunner win to go up 2-1. Through three sets, MSU Denver was led by senior
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) with 39 assists and senior
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) with 15 kills and 13 digs.

The Roadrunners finished off the Rangers in the fourth set to take the match 3-1 after a 25-18 win. Smith ended with 18 kills, 15 digs, and three aces. Junior defensive specialist
Jackie Lopez (Encino, Calif./Notre Dame H.S.) finished the match with a team leading 23 digs in the win.

The Roadrunners will return home to host Colorado School of Mines on Friday, October 21 at 7 p.m. for MSU Denver Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night. MSU Denver will then face Colorado Christian at 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 22 at the Auraria Event Center for their annual "Dig Pink Night" to raise cancer awareness.
