Volleyball: No. 23 Roadrunners Remain Undefeated in RMAC After Road Win at Regis

MSU Denver takes down the Rangers 3-1 on the road

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team (16-3, 11-0 RMAC) remained undefeated in conference play after a 3-1 win at crosstown rival Regis University (12-8, 7-4 RMAC) on Tuesday, October 18.

The twenty-third ranked Roadrunners went down early to the Rangers after a 25-21 loss in the first set. MSU Denver started the match with a .103 hitting percentage, but were led by sophomore Santaisha Sturges (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) who finished with 3.5 points and three kills in the set.

MSU Denver refused to quit in the second set against the Rangers. The two teams continued to exchange potential set points until the Roadrunners were able to get the win 32-30 to even the match at 1-1 off a Sturges kill.

Just as the set before, the two teams traded blows to extend the set until a 28-26 Roadrunner win to go up 2-1. Through three sets, MSU Denver was led by senior Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) with 39 assists and senior Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) with 15 kills and 13 digs.

The Roadrunners finished off the Rangers in the fourth set to take the match 3-1 after a 25-18 win. Smith ended with 18 kills, 15 digs, and three aces. Junior defensive specialist Jackie Lopez (Encino, Calif./Notre Dame H.S.) finished the match with a team leading 23 digs in the win.
