Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team (3-3-4, 2-2-2 RMAC) finished in a 2-2 draw against Westminster College (6-1-2, 3-0-2 RMAC) on Sunday, October 2 at the Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver.
Westminster started the scoring in the 16th minute to go up early 1-0. The Roadrunners had a number of opportunities on the offensive end in the first 20 minutes of the period but couldn't find the net until sophomore
Reigna Banks (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) connected off a header thanks to an assist from senior
Alexie Marr (Longmont, Colo./Longmont H.S.) to level the score 1-1 in the 21st minute.
Less than two minute into the second half, the Griffins went ahead off a goal from Heidi Lorschieder from the top of the box to put Westminster ahead 2-1. The Roadrunners were able to respond with just 12 minutes remaining in the period off a goal from Marr via an assist from senior
Elise Boisnard (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) off a corner kick to tie the match yet again at 2-2 and the game would go into overtime.
Two minutes into the overtime, freshman goalkeeper
Erica Torres (Bakersfield, Calif./Baskersfield High School) made a great save; diving to her right to keep the game alive. Westminster continued to attack with a barrage of corners but was unable to score. The Roadrunners countered with a near goal off a corner late in the first over time period but couldn't convert.
Both teams exchanged chances in the second overtime, but Torres had another remarkable save diving to her right with just one minute left to keep the game at 2-2. The game would finish in a draw; Torres concluded the day with 6 saves and the Roadrunners ended the game with four shots on net.
MSU Denver will next travel to Las Vegas, N.M. to face New Mexico Highlands on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m. followed by trip to CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, October 9 at 1 p.m.
