Grand Junction, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team fell to No. 14 Colorado Mesa 3-0 Friday night. The Roadrunners are now 8-6-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mavericks extended their win streak to ten and improved to 11-1-3 overall and 10-0-1 in the RMAC.
Colorado Mesa got on the board early with Slater Elkind scoring off a rebounded shot following a Maverick corner kick just three minutes into the game. MSU Denver battled back throughout the first half taking three shots with two on goal.
The game remained 1-0 until just under two minutes to play in regulation when Maverick player, Roy Abergil scored two breakaway goals just one minute apart from eachother to seal the deal for Colorado Mesa. The Roadrunners ended the night taking eight shots with seniors
Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) and
Arturo Vega (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic H.S.) both providing two shots a piece. MSU Denver led the corner kick tally 7-6. Senior goal keeper,
Hayden Rus (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) made five saves for the Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on Westminster College at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 23.
