Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's volleyball team defeated Colorado Christian Friday, 3-1. The Roadrunners improved to 18-3 overall and 13-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Cougars fell to 14-9 overall and 6-6 in conference play.

The first proved to be a back and forth battle between the two sides. The Roadrunners broke away in the set to have the edge 18-13, however the cougars fought back to bring the score within two. Senior
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led both teams with seven kills in the set. Sophomore
Santaisha Sturges (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) added three kills with junior
Jackie Lopez (Encino, Calif./Notre Dame H.S.) providing three aces in the set.

The Roadrunners trailed the entire second set until tying the score at 24 late in the set and taking the lead 26-25. MSU Denver would go on to win the set 28-26. Sturges had five kills in the set with Smith providing a set high eight.

The Cougars would go on to take the third set 26-24 but the Roadrunners dominated the third set winning 22-25 to earn the win, 3-1. Smith finished the night with 20 kills and 18 digs. Sturges added 16 kills and 13 digs and Senior
Brandi Torr (Albuquerque, N.M./La Cueva H.S.) ended the night with 55 assists for the Roadrunners. Lopez ended the match with 28 digs and 4 aces.

The Roadrunners are home Friday, October 28 to take on South Dakota School of Mines at 7 p.m. at the Auraria Event Center. Â
