Women's Soccer: Roadrunners Defeat Western State 2-0 on Senior Day

MSU Denver picks up big RMAC win on Sunday

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team (7-4-4, 6-3-2 RMAC) defeated Western State (5-8-2, 3-6-1 RMAC) 2-0 on Sunday, October 23 at the Regency Athletic Complex.

In the first half, the majority of the play remained in the midfield with neither team putting a shot on net after 20 minutes. Senior Elise Boisnard nearly put the Roadrunners ahead with the 23rd minute with a diving shot attempt that narrowly missed wide right.

The two teams went into halftime scoreless, with MSU Denver holding the advantage in shots 2-1. The Mountaineers led in corners 4-2.

The Mountaineers started the second half pressuring on the offensive end but freshman goalkeeper Erica Torres and the Roadrunner defense held strong to keep the game scoreless. The Roadrunners returned with pressure of their own to go ahead 1-0 in the 70th minute off an assist from senior Elise Boisnard to sophomore Emily Romer, scoring her first of the year.

The Roadrunners stuck again less than three minutes later off a goal from freshman Brenda Vazquez, the first of her MSU Denver career, to go up 2-0. MSU Denver finished out the game leading in shots 5-3 and in corner kicks 8-6.

The Roadrunners conclude their regular season play at Regis University at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 30.
