Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team (7-4-4, 6-3-2 RMAC) defeated Western State (5-8-2, 3-6-1 RMAC) 2-0 on Sunday, October 23 at the Regency Athletic Complex.

In the first half, the majority of the play remained in the midfield with neither team putting a shot on net after 20 minutes. Senior
Elise Boisnard nearly put the Roadrunners ahead with the 23
rd minute with a diving shot attempt that narrowly missed wide right.

The two teams went into halftime scoreless, with MSU Denver holding the advantage in shots 2-1. The Mountaineers led in corners 4-2.

The Mountaineers started the second half pressuring on the offensive end but freshman goalkeeper
Erica Torres and the Roadrunner defense held strong to keep the game scoreless. The Roadrunners returned with pressure of their own to go ahead 1-0 in the 70
th minute off an assist from senior
Elise Boisnard to sophomore
Emily Romer, scoring her first of the year.

The Roadrunners stuck again less than three minutes later off a goal from freshman
Brenda Vazquez, the first of her MSU Denver career, to go up 2-0. MSU Denver finished out the game leading in shots 5-3 and in corner kicks 8-6.
