Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team (7-5-4, 6-4-2 RMAC) fell 2-0 to Regis (8-7-2, 8-3-1 RMAC) in the final regular season Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game.
Regis got on the board early when Junior Akina Fujimoto scored her first goal of the season in the tenth minute of the game. The scored remained 1-0 in the Rangers favor until just over five minutes to go in the half when Mickie Piechowski scored her sixth goal of the season to put her team up 2-0 going into halftime. The two teams were even with three shots on goal and three corner kicks in the first half.
The second half saw no goals for either side. The Roadrunners put on the offensive pressure earning four corner kicks and outshooting the Rangers 7-6 in the half but were unable to find the back of the net. Freshman
Gricelda Gomez (Baskersfield, Calif./Foothill High School) led MSU Denver with four shots in the game. Freshman goalkeeper
Erica Torres (Bakersfield, Calif./Baskersfield High School) made six saves on the day.
The Roadrunners will compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament set to begin Wednesday, November 1. Games locations, teams and times are TBA.
