Rapid City, South Dakota- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer earned an overtime win against South Dakota School of Mines. The Roadrunners improve to 7-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic conference. The Hardrockers fell to 1-9 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
MSU Denver pressured South Dakota School of Mines in the first half, out shooting the Hardrockers 9-2 in the first half of play. Senior,
Arturo Vega (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic H.S.) put the Roadrunners on the board scoring his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 40
th minute. The Roadrunners had the edge going into the second half on top 1-0.
The Roadrunners remained on top for most of the second half until the 77
th minute when Hardrocker, Justin Barkow found the back of the net tying the game 1-1. The game remained tied and was sent into overtime.
Just two minutes into overtime freshman
Yannick Schad (Munich, Germany/Theodolinden-Gymnasium) secured the victory for MSU Denver scoring his first goal of the season. The goal was assisted by freshman
Dimitri Ney (Grenoble, France/Lycée Pablo Néruda) and gave the Roadrunners a 2-1 win.
The Roadrunners take on inner-city rival Regis University October 9 at 2:30 p.m. at Regis.
