Grand Junction, Colo.– The MSU Denver men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up their first day of competition at the Colorado Mesa Duals. Both teams competed against Arizona Christian in the first matches of the day.Â

The Roadrunners women's tennis team came out strong and swept the singles matches. Junior
Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) and freshman
Tabitha Porter (Norwich, England/Northcote College) were victorious at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively, both winning 6-1, 6-2. Â Junior
Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) took the No. 3 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-0 as well as junior
Linying Xiao (Guilin, China/St. Mary's Academy (Colo.)) in the No. 4. Freshman
Ainsley Winterrowd (Lacey, Washington/North Thurston High School) claimed No. 5 singles 6-4, 6-1, and freshman
Mackenzie Hotan (Beaverton, Oregon/Southridge High School) won the No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-2.

The Roadrunners went 2-1 in doubles matches on day one. Wright and Kerr won their doubles match 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, Xiao and  Porter won 8-2.  Senior
Ana-Jelena Vujosevic (Milano, Italy/Skednja Ekonomska Skola) and Hotan fell in the No. 3 doubles with a score of 8-4.

In the second match of the day the women competed against Dixie State. Wright and Kerr won their doubles match 8-4 while the other pairs fell 9-8 (6) and 8-4. The Roadrunners split the singles matches. Wright fell 6-4, 6-4. Porter gained the win for the Roadrunners with scores of 6-1, 6-3. Kerr fell 7-5, 6-3. Xiao won a clost match 6-0, 4-6, 10-8. Â Winterrowd fell 6-1, 7-5 and Hotan fell 6-4, 6-4.Â
The men competed against Arizona Chrisitan on day one. In doubles, Senior
Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) and sophomore
Joey Tscherne (Sylmar, Calif./John F. Kennedy H.S.) won their match 9-7. Sophomore
Keenan Kaltenbacher (Colorado Springs, Colo./The Classical Academy) and
Tom Witteveen (San Diego, Calif. /Steele Canyon High School) won their match 9-8. Â In the last doubles match junior
Calum Hayes (Leeds, England/Guiseley H.S.) and freshman
Alejandro Martinez-Morilla (Madrid, Spain/I.E. Valdecas) fell 9-7. In singles the Roadrunners took four of the six matches. Graetz fell in a close battle with scores of 4-6, 6-4, 2-10. Tscherne was victorius earning the win 6-4, 6-4. Martinez- Morilla fell 6-4, 6-1. Witteveen won his match 6-2, 6-2. Hayes fought back to win his battle 4-6, 6-0, 10-2. Kaltenbacher earned the last Roadrunner win of the day with scores of 6-2, 6-7 (5), 10-8.

Both teams will compete in day two of the Colorado Mesa Duals will continue Saturday October 8.Â
