Grand Junction, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's and women's tennis team played in day two of the Colorado Mesa Duals October 8 in Grand Junction Colorado. Both teams competed against Colorado Mesa.
The MSU Denver women were victorious against Colorado Mesa on day two of the Colorado Mesa Duals. The Roadrunners swept the double matches. Juniors
Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) and
Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) won their match 8-6. Freshman
Tabitha Porter (Norwich, England/Northcote College) and junior
Linying Xiao (Guilin, China/St. Mary's Academy (Colo.)) won their match 9-8 (5).
MSU Denver split their doubles matches winning three of the six. Wright fell in her match with scores of 2-6, 6-3, (10-8). Kerr won her match 6-1, 6-0. Xiao gained the win 6-1, 6-0. Xiao fell 6-2, 7-5. Freshman
Ainsley Winterrowd (Lacey, Washington/North Thurston High School) claimed the victory with scores of 2-6, 6-1, (16-14). Freshman
Mackenzie Hotan (Beaverton, Oregon/Southridge High School) fell in her match 6-2, 4-6, (10-5). In the last singles match of the day Senior
Ana-Jelena Vujosevic (Milano, Italy/Skednja Ekonomska Skola) was victorious winning with scores of 3-6, 7-6 (4), (11-9).

Daniel Hangstefer explained his excitement for the women's matches in day two of the duals, "The women competed well and won an exciting match. This marks the first time the women have beaten Colorado Mesa since I've been here."
The men competed against Colorado Mesa in day two as well. Senior
Josh Graetz (Albury, Australia/The Scots School) and sophomore
Joey Tscherne (Sylmar, Calif./John F. Kennedy H.S.) won their doubles match 8-4 while the other pairs fell 7-9 and 6-8.
MSU Denver won three of the six singles matches against CMU. Graetz claimed the win with scores of 6-2, 6-0. Tscherne won 6-1, 6-2. Freshman
Alejandro Martinez-Morilla (Madrid, Spain/I.E. Valdecas) fell in a close battle with scores of 6-4, 3-6 (10-7). Junior
Tom Witteveen (San Diego, Calif. /Steele Canyon High School) lost a close battle 3-6, 7-6 (5) (10-7).
Calum Hayes (Leeds, England/Guiseley H.S.) claimed the victory with scores of 3-6, 7-6 (5), (10-7). In the last match of the day senior
Sam Stember (Melbourne, Fla./Satellite H.S.) fell 6-3, 3-6 (15-13).
The MSU Denver men's and women's tennis team wrapped up their fall 2016 play and will be back in action for the 2017 season.
