Women's Soccer: Roadrunners Fall to Thunderwolves 1-0

First half goal difference maker for Thunderwolves

Pueblo, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team fell to CSU-Pueblo 1-0 Sunday, October 9.  The Roadrunners fell to 4-4-4 overall and 3-3-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Thunderwolves improved to 8-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
 
MSU Denver held CSU-Pueblo until the final minute of the first half when Rianna Lockhart connected with the back of the net after a scramble in front of the Roadrunner net, giving CSU-Pueblo the 1-0 advantage going into the second half. The Thunderwolves outshot the Roadrunners 8-3 in the first half of play and had the edge on corner kicks 3-2.
 
MSU Denver put the pressure on in the second half having four shots to the Thunderwolves three and earning four second half corner kicks. However, the first half goal proved to be the difference maker, as the game ended 1-0 in favor of CSU Pueblo. Freshman Gricelda Gomez (Baskersfield, Calif./Foothill High School) led the Roadrunners with two shots in the game and one on goal.  Freshman goal keeper Erica Torres (Bakersfield, Calif./Baskersfield High School) made four saves in the game.
 
The Roadunners are back on the road next weekend taking on Black Hills State Sunday, October 16 at 1 p.m.
