Fairbanks, Alaska - The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team (3-2) fell to Stanislaus State (2-3) 63-57 in the first game of the MT McKinley Bank North Star Invitational on Thursday, November 24.
The game was a back and forth battle with each side leading by no more than six points throughout. The Roadrunners were leading with just 5:12 to go in the game when Lizzy Anderson hit a three for the Warriors cutting the lead to two. The play was followed by a Warrior steal to lead to a layup to tie the game. A pair of warrie free throws gave the Warriors the lead and they would go on to win by six. The Warriors outs hot the Roadrunners 19-12 in the last quarter.
Emily Hartegan (Wylie, Texas/Wylie East H.S.) and
Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.) lead the way in the Roadrunner in Fairbanks. Smith shot 6-9 from the field and led both teams with 15 and five boards. Hartegan finished with 14 points and a game high eight rebounds.
MSU Denver shot 41 percent in the game and the team added eight assists and 27 rebounds.
The Roadrunners will continue play tomorrow in Alaska against Newman University at 3 p.m. MT.
