Fairbanks, Alaska- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team (4-3) defeated University of Alaska Fairbanks 70-57.

The Roadrunners came out on fire shooting 40 percent in the first quarter and holding the Nanooks to a 10 percent shooting average in the first quarter. MSU Denver entered the second quarter winning 19-6 and kept the momentum going into the second quarter.

The Roadrunners lead throughout the first half, holding the Nanooks to 21 points. Sophomore
Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.) led the way in the first half leading both teams with 10 points while adding three first half assists.

The Nanooks made a comeback in the second half cutting the Roadrunners lead to six in the fourth quarter after leading by as many as 15.Â

The Roadrunners responded after their lead was cut to six points. By going on a 14-7 scoring run with defense being a key part. Just allowing seven points after the five minute mark in the forth quarter.

MSU Denver with a final score of 70-57. The Roadrunners were lead by Smith who had 22 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) and
Jenae Paine (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City H.S.) both had 11 points to help the Roadrunners in the win. MSU Denver went 24-28 from the free throw line (85.7 %).
