Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team (8-4, 3-2 RMAC) fell 87-75 to Colorado Christian (8-4,3-2 RMAC) Saturday night.
Both teams came out of the gate strong with the junior
Cameron Williams (Omaha, Neb./South High School ) scoring the first four points for the Roadrunners and giving the team a 4-0 lead. However, the Cougars then went on an 8-0 lead to take the lead and able to keep it for just over 10 minutes when junior Peter Moller scored a three to give his team a 20-18 lead.
The half continued to go back and forth between the two sides the Roadrunners led by as many as five while the Cougars led by as many as 6. Going into half Colorado Christian led the Roadrunners 35-26. The Roadrunners were led by Moller with 9 first half points. Junior
Sunday Dech (Perth, Australia/Churchlands H.S.) led the team with six boards. The Roadrunners out rebounded the Cougars in the first half 18-13.
Dech got the Roadrunners rolling in the second half scoring a three on the first possession cutting the lead to three. After a 7-0 run the Cougars took a 13 point lead at 56-43. Dech cut the lead to nine after a made layup with 11:30 to go in the game. The Cougars rallied back with strong offense to lead by as many as 20 in the second half. Kyle Lawson (Tustin, Calif./Foothill H.S.) and a three point play from Williams brought the Roadrunners within 10 with 1:56 to go in the half.
Despite a hard fought battle in the last two minutes the Cougars were able to secure the win 87-75.
Dech finished the game providing a double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Williams led all scorers with 21 points. Moller scored 14 and posted 4 assists.
The Roadrunners will return home Friday, December 30 to play Colorado Mesa at 7 p.m.
