Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball (7-2, 3-0 RMAC) defeated Regis( 6-3, 0-3 RMAC) 72-70 on Friday, December 9 at the Regis Fieldhouse.
Regis got off to a quick start scoring two buckets on MSU Denver to give the Rangers 4-0 start, however junior
Sunday Dech (Perth, Australia/Churchlands H.S.) responded with a 3 pointer to put the Roadrunners within two. The score remained close for the next 15 minutes with the largest lead being five points for both teams. The Rangers would finish the first half on 8-1 run en route to a 41-29 lead at half.
The Roadrunners stormed back after half time using a 10-0 run to get the game within three points. MSU Denver and the Rangers were in a tight one the rest of the game with the Roadrunners largest lead being five points. The Rangers tied the game at 70 with 27 seconds left in the game. Following the Roadrunners timeout Harris scored the game winning bucket off of a missed Roadrunner three pointer attempt as time expired.
Senior Andre Harris nearly completed a double double finishing with 13 points and seven rebounds. Junior Peter Møller was the leading scorer with 17 points.
Enrique Cortés Zotes (Malaga, Spain/I.E.S. Litoral) would help with 14 points and Dech with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Roadrunners continue competition tomorrow on the road against Chadron State at 7:30 p.m.
