Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team (6-4, 2-1 RMAC) fell 62-67 to Regis (7-1, 2-1 RMAC) Friday in Denver, Colo.
Regis maintained the lead over MSU Denver for the entire first half. The first five minutes of the first quarter remained close, however the Rangers made a 9-0 run at the end of the quarter to go up on the Roadrunners 22-9 and carried the momentum into the second quarter in which the Rangers never led by less than 10 points. Going into half the Rangers led the Roadrunners 37-26. The Roadrunners were led by freshman
Bree Wellington (Fresno, Calif./Buchanan High School) with nine points, shooting 4-5 from the field. MSU Denver was out rebounded by Regis 23-11 in the first half.
The Roadrunners fought back hard in the second half, going on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter to cut the Ranger lead to just five. The last five minutes of the game proved to be a hard fought battle. MSU Denver cut the lead to four with just 28 seconds to go, however the Rangers were able to take the win. Junior
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College)f scored 16 second half points and finished with four rebounds. Wellington finished with 15 points and six boards.
The Roadrunners return to action on the road Saturday against Chadron State at 5:30 p.m.
