Softball: Roadrunners Win Two In Texas

MSU Denver defeats Tarleton State and Eastern New Mexico

Canyon, Texas - The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team defeated Tarleton State and Eastern New Mexico to move to 3-3 on the season.
Head Coach Annie Van Wetzinga said, "We played really solid defense and our pitchers were performing well.  We were able to take advantage and score with timely hitting."

In the first game, MSU Denver knocked-off Tarleton State 6-2.  The Roadrunners started by falling behind 2-0 in the second inning.  The first score of the game for the Roadrunners came from freshman Ashlee Kim (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.).  Kim drove in sophomore Harley Huser (Thornton, Colo./Mountain Range H.S.) on a double to left field.  Kim and sophomore Carissa Terry (Moreno Valley, Calif./Valley View H.S.) both scored when junior Hayley Fields (Arlington, Wash./Arlington H.S.) singled to left field.  Junior Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) would cap off the scoring in the inning driving in Fields on a single up the middle.  Kim and Huser would each score again in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.  Junior Cassisdy Smith would pick up the complete game win.

The Roadrunners would win their second game 2-0 against Eastern New Mexico.  MSU Denver's first score came off of a sacrifice fly by sophomore Serena Espinoza allowing Fields to score in the fourth inning.  Fields would triple in the sixth inning to bring Kim home, however, Fields would be thrown out on the play.  Fields pitched the second game striking out five batters and allowing only six hits in the complete game shutout.

The Roadrunners will be back in action Saturday, February 13 at 2:30 p.m. CT when they take on Angelo State in Canyon Texas.
