Canyon, Texas – The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team lost two games on Saturday at the West Texas A&M Invitational.
In the first game, the Roadrunners fell to Angelo State 11-5. MSU Denver fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first, sophomore
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) hit a triple to drive in junior
Hayley Fields (Arlington, Wash./Arlington H.S.). Fields smacked a triple of her own in the bottom of the second inning scoring junior
Brooke Lovas (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills H.S.) to tie the game 2-2. Angelo State would score the next seven runs and take a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth inning. Espinoza doubled in the bottom of the fourth driving in two runs and junior
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) hit her first homerun of the season in the sixth inning. Fields would take the loss giving up nine runs, eight earned, on 13 hits.
MSU Denver faced Midwestern State in the second game of the day. The Roadrunners fell to the Mustangs 8-5. Espinoza and Lovas continued their hot hitting. Espinoza went 2-for-3 driving in one RBI. Lovas went 2-for-3 scoring two runs and driving in another. Junior
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) took the loss dropping her record to 1-2. Senior
Kailey Christensen (Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) came on to pitch and allowed only one run on four hits in relief.
The Roadrunners ended the day with a record of 3-5 overall.
MSU Denver will face St. Mary's at 10:30 a.m. CT and host school West Texas A&M at 12:45 p.m. CT on Sunday, February 14 in Canyon, Texas.
