Chadron, Neb. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team fell to Chadron State on Saturday night, 50-47. The Roadrunners fall to 11-14 overall and 9-10 in the RMAC while Chadron State improves to 8-15 overall and 8-11 in the RMAC.
Sophomores
Hannah Stipanovich (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton H.S.) and
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) each had 13 points to lead the Roadrunners in scoring. Stipanovich and freshman
Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.) both had seven rebounds.
The Roadrunners defense in the first half was superb. MSU Denver limited Chadron State to 3-of-24 shooting from the field for a 12.5 percent. Chadron State scored only 15 points in the half. The Roadrunners went on a 12-0 run spanning over three minutes. MSU Denver held a 22-15 lead at the half.
In the second half, MSU Denver built a 15 point lead. Chadron State would use a 10-0 run and an 11-0 run to erase the lead. The Roadrunners were outscored 26-4 over a nine minute stretch. MSU Denver trimmed the Chadron State to one on two different occasions, however, Chadron State would not relinquish the lead.
MSU Denver will return home to face S.D. School of Mines on Friday, February 19 at 5 p.m.
