Denver – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team defeated S.D. School of Mines 86-70 on Friday night. The Roadrunners advance to 17-9 overall and 15-5 in the RMAC while S.D. Mines falls to 8-16 overall and 6-14 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by sophomore
Bounama Keita (Saint-Louis, Senegal/Impact Basketball Academy (Fla.)) with 19 points on the night. Keita was 8-of-10 from the field and grabbed 10 rebounds, giving him his second straight double-double.
MSU Denver put forth a true team effort in Friday night's victory, with four players scoring in double figures and nine players tallying in the score column.
The Roadrunners led the Hardrockers by 12 at half, going into the locker room up 42-30. In the first six minutes of the second half the Roadrunners extended their lead to 25 points, going up 64-39. S.D. Mines failed to respond with much offense of its own, only narrowing the score to 14 points in the final minute of the game. In the second half, the Roadrunners went 18-for-31 from the field, giving them a 53.2 field-goal percentage for the game.
MSU Denver will face Black Hills State at 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 20 at the Auraria Events Center.
