Denver — The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Adams State University 6-3 and lost the second game 2-1. MSU Denver improves to 4-8 on the season and 1-1 in the RMAC while and ASU improves to 3-11 and 1-1 in the RMAC.

Hayley Fields (Arlington, Wash./Arlington H.S.) took the circle for MSU Denver notching her third win of the season and improving to 3-3. Fields pitched the full seven innings for the Roadrunners giving up three runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Fields helped her own cause with one run, one RBI, one hit, and one stolen base in the game.
The Grizzlies scored in the top of the first to go up 1-0, before the Roadrunners fired back in the bottom of the first with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. With the bases loaded, sophomore
Annika Anderson (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) drew an error that drove in junior
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.). Sophomore
Harley Huser (Thornton, Colo./Mountain Range H.S.) then singled to drive in Fields. Sophomore
Kristyn Peters (Lakewood, CO/Dakota Ridge) proceeded to draw a walk, driving in MSU Denver's third run of the inning.
In the second inning Fields hit a deep sacrifice fly to score Bakovich, putting MSU Denver up 4-1.
Adams State homered in the top of the fourth to bring the score to 4-2, before the Roadrunners answered in the bottom of the inning to go up 5-2.
In the fifth inning the Grizzlies homered again to make it a 5-3 ballgame, before Peters singled in the bottom of the fifth to give the Roadrunners another run en route to their 6-3 victory.
MSU Denver lost the second game of the doubleheader 2-1. Junior
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) started for MSU Denver, pitching all seven innings in the close game. Smith only allowed two runs in seven innings, but ended up taking the loss.
The Grizzlies scored in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice grounder from freshman
Ashlee Kim (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) that drew a Grizzly error that would score Peters from first base.
Adams State scored again in the top of the fifth to go up 2-1, which would prove to be enough to win the game.
Peters had one run and one hit in three at-bats in the game.
MSU Denver will play another doubleheader to finish the series against Adams State on Sunday at noon at the Regency Athletic Complex.
