Denver - The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team won both games of a doubleheader on Sunday over Adams State. The Roadrunners improve their record to 6-8 on the season and 3-1 in the RMAC.
In the first game, MSU Denver won 6-1. The Roadrunners got off on the right foot when sophomore
Kristyn Peters (Lakewood, CO/Dakota Ridge) doubled into centerfield scoring junior
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) in the second inning. Â In the fourth inning, sophomore
Carissa Terry (Moreno Valley, Calif./Valley View H.S.) hit a homerun making it 2-0. MSU Denver continued to put up numbers offensively scoring again in the fifth inning when freshman
Caitie Booco (Keenesburg, Colo./Weld Central H.S.) scored after an error by the right fielder. Â Sophomore
Harley Huser (Thornton, Colo./Mountain Range H.S.) singled to the pitcher, scoring Terry. Â In the sixth inning, Fields hit a double to right field, scoring freshman
Ashlee Kim (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.).  Adams State went on to score one of their own in the seventh inning. Fields pitched all seven innings tallying five strikeouts.
MSU Denver defeated Adams State 3-0 in the second game of the doubleheader. The game remained scoreless until the third inning when junior
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) drove in junior
Brooke Lovas (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills H.S.). In the fourth inning, Lovas would add to the Roadrunners lead. Lovas batted in Kim and Booco with a single to right field to cement the MSU Denver victory. Smith pitched the second game allowing no runs on only four hits.
The Roadrunners will play Colorado School of Mines in a weekend series on February 27-28. Doubleheaders will begin both days at noon at The Regency Athletic Complex.
