Pueblo, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team was defeated by CSU-Pueblo on Saturday night 90-83. The Roadrunners fall to 14-9 overall and 12-5 in the RMAC while CSU-Pueblo improves to 14-9 overall and 10-7 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by sophomore Peter Moller. Moller scored 19 points and led the team with four assists. Senior
Tony Dobbinson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill H.S.) added 17 points and junior
Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) contributed 16 points. Sophomore
Bounama Keita (Saint-Louis, Senegal/Impact Basketball Academy (Fla.)) led the team in rebounding with 10 boards.
MSU Denver would build a 14-9 lead after sophomore
Shane Fox (Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty H.S.) knocked down a three-point basket with 11:35 to go in the half. CSU-Pueblo would hit three consecutive three-point baskets late in the first half and build a 34-28 lead with 2:39 on the clock. MSU Denver would hit a couple of field goals and CSU-Pueblo would make free throws as the half closed. The Roadrunners would trail 39-34 at the half.
The second half would see the Roadrunners come out firing. MSU Denver would take the lead 47-46 with 17:02 to go in the game on a Dobbinson three-point basket. Dobbinson would give the Roadrunners a three point lead at 58-55 with 13:01 to play. Over the next five minutes, Howard would be the only Roadrunner to score and MSU Denver would be outscored 17-5 over that stretch. MSU Denver would trim the lead to as few as five, but could not overcome CSU-Pueblo. CSU-Pueblo would convert on 11-of-12 free throws in the final 1:10.
MSU Denver will travel to Regis in Denver on Friday, February 12. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
