La Jolla, Calif. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team split two games Saturday against UC San Diego and Western Oregon to move to 1-3 on the season.
In the first game of the day, MSU Denver fell to UC San Diego 5-1. The Roadrunners struck first on the scoreboard when sophomore
Kristyn Peters (Lakewood, CO/Dakota Ridge) drove in junior
Hayley Fields (Arlington, Wash./Arlington H.S.). Fields went 2-for-4 and scored the lone run for MSU Denver. Junior
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) gave up five runs on 10 hits in the game. Smith fell to 0-2 on the season.
The Roadrunners were able to knock off Western Oregon in the second game of the day by a score of 6-2. MSU Denver was able to take a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning after freshman
Ashlee Kim (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) tripled to right center followed by Fields singling to drive in Kim. Fields pitching in the game allowed two runs on seven hits.
MSU Denver will face Tarleton State on Friday, February 12 as part of the West Texas A&M Invitational in Canyon, Texas. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m. CT.
