Grand Junction, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team fell 3-2 to Colorado Mesa on Friday afternoon.  The Roadrunners to drop to 6-9 overall and 2-3 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners were able to strike first on the scoreboard when junior
Jake Thurston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview H.S.) hit a solo homerun down the left field line in the third inning. In the fourth inning, following a double by sophomore
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.), sophomore
Trent Maloney (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) would hit a single and Donaldson would score on a throwing error to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the fourth.
Colorado Mesa responded with three unanswered runs. The Mavericks would score one in the fourth, the fifth, and the seventh inning. Sophomore
Julian Garcia (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) started on the mound fro the Roadrunners. Garcia threw seven innings and recorded five strikeouts. He gave three runs on five hits.
MSU Denver will play a seven-inning doubleheader against Colorado Mesa on Saturday, March 12 with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
