Denver – The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team won two games on Tuesday afternoon against Fort Hays State to improve to 18-10 on the season.
In the first game of the day, the Roadrunners won 3-2. Junior
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) went 1-for-1 and scored two runs in the game. Bakovich scored in the first inning off a double from sophomore
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) and again in the third inning when junior
Brooke Lovas (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills H.S.) grounded out on the play. Lovas posted two RBI's in the game. The Roadrunners third run came from freshman
Ashlee Kim (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) off of the bat of Lovas. Junior
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) pitched five innings and allowed one run. Junior
Hayley Fields (Arlington, Wash./Arlington H.S.) came in the last two innings of the game and recorded five strikeouts and earned her eleventh win on the season. Fort Hays State was able to record one run in the top of the second inning and in the top of the sixth inning.
The Roadrunners were able to pick up another win in game two defeating Fort Hays State 5-2. Fort Hays State struck first on the scoreboard putting up top runs in the top of the second inning. MSU Denver would respond scoring three of its five runs in the bottom of the second inning with one RBI coming from freshman
Caitie Booco (Keenesburg, Colo./Weld Central H.S.) and two RBI's from Bakovich. Sophomore
Annika Anderson (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) went 2-for-3 in the game scoring two runs while Kim went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Lovas knocked in another RBI in the fourth inning. Senior
Kailey Christensen (Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) threw six innings allowing only two runs and recorded four strikeouts. Senior
Sarah Bretti (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) recorded her first save of the year.
MSU Denver will travel to Silver City, N.M. to face Western New Mexico on March 19-20. First pitch on Saturday, March 19 is scheduled for noon.
