Denver - The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team won both games of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon defeating Colorado Christian by scores of 7-2 and 12-1. The Roadrunners improve to 8-12 overall and 4-6 in the RMAC while Colorado Christian falls to 5-18 overall and 0-10 in the RMAC.
In the first game, MSU Denver defeated Colorado Christian 7-2. Sophomore
Julian Garcia (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) picked up his third win of the season. Garcia allowed two runs on five hits and struck out eight batters. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Roadrunners were able to put up three runs. Senior
Andrew Paust (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa H.S.), freshman
Hunter Donaldson (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.), and junior
Marcus Bean (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) each drove in a run during the inning to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead. Bean drove in another run in the bottom of the fifth inning followed by senior
Nick Comito (Lakewood, Colo./Mullen H.S.) hitting a double to center field that would plate three more runs. Colorado Christian scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to bring the score to the eventual final of 7-2.
The Roadrunners won the second game 12-1. Colorado Christian took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. MSU Denver responded by tying the game in the bottom of the second inning when junior
Jake Thurston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview H.S.) doubled to left field scoring Donaldson. Paust reached on an error by the shortstop that also scored senior
Jeff Levett (Parker, Colo./Chaparral H.S.). A single by sophomore
Cale O'Donnell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.) plated a run and a single by junior Nick McCaskey drove in two more making the score 5-1. Levett and Comito each walked with the bases loaded to score two more runs. In the bottom of the fourth inning the Roadrunners continued their scoring when Donaldson blasted a solo home run to center field to make the score 8-1. Comito hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth inning to score junior
Jake Thurston (Centennial, Colo./Grandview H.S.). The Roadrunners continued their offensive onslaught in the bottom of the sixth inning when Thurston doubled to center field scoring two more runs.
MSU Denver will face Colorado Christian on Monday, March 21 in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for noon at The Regency Athletic Complex.
