Silver City, N.M. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team won both games of a doubleheader on Sunday against Western New Mexico.  The Roadrunners improve to 21-11 overall and 16-4 in the RMAC.

MSU Denver defeated Western New Mexico 12-0 in five innings in the first game of the day.  The Roadrunners were able to get the bats going early scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.  Junior Hayley Fields and sophomores Carissa Terry and Annika Anderson each drove in a run.  The second inning saw the Roadrunners score three more runs.  Sophomore Sarena Espinoza drove in a run after hitting a double.  Junior Cassidy Smith hit a two-run home run to left field on the next at-bat.  The third inning continued the offense onslaught with freshman Ashlee Kim and junior Brooke Lovas each driving in a run.  In the fourth inning, Anderson and Smith each drove in two more runs for the Roadrunners.  Smith picked up the win in the circle allowing only three hits in the game.

In the second game, MSU Denver defeated Western New Mexico 9-1.  The Roadrunners jumped out to a quick lead again scoring two runs in the top of the first inning.  Espinoza and Terry each picked up an RBI.  Espinoza would knock in two more runs in the top of the second inning scoring both Lovas and Kim.  Smith singled as well to drive in Espinoza making the score 5-0.  A two-run home run by Smith in the fourth inning gave the Roadrunners a 7-0 lead.  Western New Mexico would put up a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it would not be enough   Fields and Anderson each hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning.  Fields earned the win for the Roadrunners allowing one run on five hits and striking out three batters in the game.
