Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's tennis team fell to Stanislaus State 5-4 in a close match on Thursday, March 31 at the Colorado Athletic Club-Inverness. The match was moved from the Regency Athletic Complex due to weather in the Denver area.

"The ladies put themselves in a position to win today," said head coach Daniel Hangstefer "It didn't quite go our way in the end, but I was proud of the way that they fought."

In singles play, the Roadrunners would split with Stanislaus 3-3. MSU Denver was able to record victories from sophomore Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) in No. 1 singles (6-2, ret.), sophomore Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) (7-6(3),4-6,6-3) and sophomore Linying Xiao (Guilin, China/St. Mary's Academy (Colo.)) (6-0,6-2). MSU Denver was also able to pick up one victory in doubles, as Xiao and senior Kasey Love (Daytona Beach, Fla./Spruce Creek H.S.) defeated the Warriors 8-2 in the No. 2 spot.

The Roadrunners now turn their focus to conference play on Friday, April 1. They will first host Western New Mexico at 9 a.m. at the Regency Athletic Complex and then travel to Lakewood to face Colorado Christian at 3:30 p.m.
