Golden, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver baseball team opened their three-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series against Colorado School of Mines with a 15-10 loss on Friday, April 22. The Roadrunners fall to 14-19 overall and 10-13 in the RMAC.
MSU Denver took an early lead in the first inning thanks to a two-out single up the middle from junior
Nick McCasky (Golden, Colo./Ralston Valley H.S.) to put the Roadrunners up 2-0. Â The Orediggers were not fazed by the early efforts, scoring in each inning besides the 3rd before sophomore
Julian Garcia (Fort Collins, Colo./Fossil Ridge H.S.) was pulled after six innings pitched trailing 7-2. Â The Roadrunners bullpen was unable to stop the bleeding, giving up three runs in the 7th and five more in the 8th. MSU Denver fought back with eight of their own via
Joe Barron (Wichita Falls, Texas/Hirsch H.S.)'s double to right and a single from Thurston in the eighth that brought in two more. Â
Cale O'Donnell (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain H.S.)'s three-run blast in the 9th followed by another off the bat of
Jake Ekman (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge H.S.) turned out to not be enough in the 15-10 loss.
MSU Denver and Mines continue their series tomorrow, April 23 at Jim Darden Field at 1 p.m.
