Spearfish, S.D. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver softball team defeated Black Hills State and Colorado Mesa on Friday afternoon to move to 29-17 overall and 23-9 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners defeated Black Hills State 13-3 in six innings in their first game of the day. MSU Denver had a strong offensive performance with every starter recording a hit in the game. Sophomore
Colissa Bakovich (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) went 2-for-4 in game and knocked in three runs while three other Roadrunners recorded two RBIs. Senior
Kailey Christensen (Spanish Fork, Utah/Spanish Fork H.S.) pitched the complete game and allowed three runs on six hits.
In the second game of the day, MSU Denver snapped a 29-game winning streak by Colorado Mesa, defeating the Mavericks 2-1. The Roadrunners manufactured a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead when sophomore
Annika Anderson (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) hit a sacrifice fly to score Bakovich. In the bottom of the sixth inning, sophomore
Sarena Espinoza (Corona, Calif./Corona Centennial H.S.) hit a solo home run to give the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead. Colorado Mesa scored one run in the top of the seventh, but could not overtake MSU Denver. Junior
Cassidy Smith (Loveland, Colo./Loveland H.S.) allowed only one run on eight hits in the game to pick up the win for the Roadrunners.
MSU Denver will face Colorado Mesa at 1 p.m. and Black Hills State at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Spearfish, S.D.
