Denver - The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team will kick-off the 2016 season Friday, September 2 at 6 p.m. against St. Edward's at The Regency Athletic Complex.
The Roadrunners are coming of a 2015 season where they finished third in the RMAC and had an overall record of 13-4-2 under first-year head coach
Jeremy Tittle. In 2015, seniors
Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) and
Jeff Gillis (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill H.S.) were selected first team all RMAC with Tyler Trujilo selected to the second team and
Arturo Vega (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic H.S.) named honorable mention. Belfrage was selected second team D2CCA all-south central region. Seniors
Dustin Berg (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.),
Jack Mayfield (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.), and Belfrage were selected CoSIDA first team Academic All-District. Berg was named 2015 RMAC Academic Player of the Year.
MSU Denver was selected to finish third in the RMAC in the preseason coaches' poll. Entering the 2016 season, Belfrage, Berg, Gillis, and Trujilo were selected preseason all-RMAC. The team returns eleven starters and adds ten newcomers to the roster.
The first 50 fans wearing red to make it to opening night will receive free admission. Fans will be able to win prizes from the Tivoli Station, the Auraria campus bookstore.
The Roadrunners will host Dixie State on Sunday, September 4 at 11 a.m. All first responders (police, fire, medical, etc.) will receive free admission to the game. There will be a Hawaiian BBQ with $1 hot dogs being served in celebration of Labor Day weekend.
