Pueblo, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's tennis team defeated Fort Hays 8-1 on Saturday.
The Roadrunners came out strong and swept the doubles matches. Juniors Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) and Emily Kerr (Winchester, England/Peter Symonds College) won the No. 1 doubles point 8-3. At No. 2 doubles, junior Linying Xiao (Guilin, China/St. Mary's Academy (Colo.)) and freshman Tabatha Porter won 8-3 as well.  Senior Ana-Jelena Vujosevic (Milano, Italy/Skednja Ekonomska Skola) and freshman Mackenzie Hotan (Beaverton, Oregon/Southridge High School) claimed the No. 3 doubles with a score of 8-4.
In the singles matches, Porter was victorious at No. 1 singles winning 6-4, 6-0. Â Wright took the No. 2 singles by a score of 6-3, 6-2 and Vujosevic won the No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-0. Â Â
"Courtney and Ana both won their singles matches and helped to break open a tight match against Fort Hays State," said head coach Daniel Hangstefer. "After those two matches, we had some great momentum and we were able to win three of the next four singles matches."
MSU Denver will return home and host the MSU Denver Invitational on September 17-18 at the Regency Athletic Complex.Â
