Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver volleyball team beat Chadron State 3-1 in the second match of RMAC opening weekend. MSU Denver improves to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the RMAC while Chadron State falls to 2-8 and 1-1 in the RMAC.
The Roadrunners and Eagles both exchanged points early in the first set, with junior
Ryan Hoerdemann (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe H.S.)'s kill giving MSU Denver a 13-8 advantage. The Eagles were led by Rudy Leasau providing seven kills in the first set. Hoedermann and senior
Michaela Smith (Littleton, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.) led the Roadrunners with six and five kills to win the set 25-18.
MSU Denver dominated the second set leading the set 23-13 topped off with a service ace by sophomore
Santaisha Sturges (Parker, Colo./Regis Jesuit H.S.). The Eagles didn't go down without a fight rallying back with six points. Kills by
Alyssa Kelling (Merton, Wis./Arrowhead H.S.) and Smith gave the Roadrunners the last two points they needed to take the set 25-19.
Chadron State took the third set 25-23 after a close battle between the two sides. The Roadrunners were able to close the night out with a 25-22 win in the fourth set. Eagles were led by Leasuau who finished with a double-double 17 kills and 10 digs. Smith and Sturges also finished with a double-double. Smith with 14 kills and 10 digs. Sturges with 13 kills and 11 digs. Hoerdemann finished with a team high 17 kills.
The Roadrunners travel September 23-24 to Adams State and Fort Lewis for their first RMAC road matches of 2016.
