Lakewood, Colo. -Â The Metropolitan University of Denver women's soccer team was defeated by Colorado Christian 2-1 on Sunday, September 18 in an Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup. The Roadrunners fall to 1-3-2 overall & 0-2 in RMAC play, while the Cougars improve to 5-2 & 2-0 in the RMAC.
The game started very physical with six fouls in the first 16 minute and five of those fouls were by CCU. The Roadrunners recorded six shots in the first half; three on netl. Junior Elise Boinard had two shots on goal the first half, and the Roadrunners held the Cougars to one shot on goal. The score was 0-0 at the end of the first period.
MSU Denver came out hot in the second half with a goal by sophomore forward
Reigna Banks (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield H.S.) in the 46th minute assisted by senior
Ashley Smith (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West H.S.). The Cougars would respond, scoring  in the 61st minute to level the score. The Roadrunners and Cougars continued to trade shots and fouls before the Cougars scored again in the 80th minute off of a converted corner kick. The Roadrunners could not battle back in the last ten minutes with no shots, eventually falling to the Cougars 2-1. In the second half, the Roadrunners recorded four shots with one shot on goal by freshman
Kaylee Mackenzie (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills High School).
MSU Denver ended up being outshot 13-12 in the loss and recorded six shots on goal to Colorado Christian's seven. Freshman
Erica Torres (Bakersfield, Calif./Baskersfield High School) finished the day with five saves for the Roadrunners.
The Roadrunner look to bounce back at home next weekend at the Regency Athletic Complex against Adams State on Friday, September 23 at 7 p.m and Sunday, September 25 against Fort Lewis at 12 p.m.
