Denver - The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team fell 2-0 in its season opener to No.14 St. Edward's Friday, September 2 at the Regency Athletic Complex.
The Hilltoppers notched their first goal with 10 seconds left in the first half, after a pair of one touch passes from Dylan Armstrong and Parker Fyfe to set up Josh Taylor for his first goal of the season.
With 20 minutes to go in the second half, Grant Mobley won an end line battle and centered the ball to Armstrong who shot the ball into the left corner for the finish, providing the Hilltoppers with their second goal of the game.
The Roadrunners fell short having eight shots compared to 15 by the Hilltoppers. The game proved to be a physical battle with 13 Roadrunner fouls compared to the Hilltoppers 9. Senior
Hayden Rus (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) had a total of three saves for the day.
MSU Denver will return to the Regency Athletic Complex Sunday at 11 a.m. where they will face Dixie State.
