Box Score Lakewood, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team defeated Colorado Christian 5-1 Friday September 23 to gain their first Rocky Mountain Athletic conference road victory.
Freshman
Dylan Wood (Wellington, New Zealand/Onslow College) provided MSU Denver with a great start to the game in the ninth minute, scoring his first goal of the season off a rebound from a cougar save. The Roadrunners kept up the offensive pressure and were awarded a penalty kick in the 42
nd minute in which Senior
Jeff Gillis (Aurora, Colo./Smoky Hill H.S.) was able to convert for his first goal of the 2016 season.
The Roadrunners struck early in the second half when Senior
Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) scored a penalty kick in the 59
th minute to gain his fourth goal of the season. Shorty after, the cougars made their way on the board after a Roadrunner handball in the box. Blake Goodale scored his first goal of the season for the Cougars off the penalty kick the 64
th minute.
MSU Denver would quickly answer back with two game clenching goals. Senior
Dustin Berg (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County H.S.) scored his first goal on the season off a cross from
Javier Arellano (Fort Lupton, Colo./Fort Lupton High School) in the 66
th minute. Sophomore
Jaydon Moreschini (Pueblo West, Colo./Pueblo West H.S.) scored the final goal for the Roadrunners in the 86
th minute off a pass from freshman
Sergio Carvajal (Roswell, N.M./Roswell High School).
MSU Denver outshot CCU 28-5 with 13-3 shots on goal. Senior goal keeper
Hayden Rus (Gilbert, Ariz./Gilbert H.S.) provided the Roadrunners with two saves on the game.
The Roadrunners will be back in action against Colorado School of Mines Sunday September 25 at 12 p.m. in Golden, Colo.
