Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's soccer team fell 1-0 to UCCS Wednesday, September 28. The Roadrunners fall to 5-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the Mountain Lions improve to 4-4-1 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play.
The match remained even through the first half with the shot on goal count being 4-3 in favor of the Mountain Lions. However, the Roadrunners put the pressure on starting the second half taking six corner kicks to the Mountain Lions' one and out-shooting UCCS 8-3. D'Angelo Escobar (Firestone, Colo./Thornton High School )'s shot hit the post. Escobar took three shots in the game along with senior
Josh Belfrage (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista H.S.) and senior
Arturo Vega (Tucson, Ariz./Salpointe Catholic H.S.).
The game remained scoreless until just 3:41 left to play in regulation when JJ Meyer got past the defense of the Roadrunners and was able to finish from 10 yards out for his second goal of the season. MSU Denver continued to fight, taking two corner kicks and a free kick in the remaining time but came up just short.
The Roadrunners will return home to The Regency Athletic Complex to play CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, October 2 at 2:30 p.m.
