Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team finished their second game of 2016 in a 0-0 draw against Dallas Baptist on Saturday, September 3 at the Regency Athletic Complex at MSU Denver. The Roadrunners are now 1-0-1 and the Patriots are 0-1-1.
The Roadrunners and the Patriots were both held scoreless at the half, with MSU Denver leading the shot count 2-1.
In the second half, the two teams exchanged chances, but MSU Denver had the best chance in regulation when freshman
Gricelda Gomez (Baskersfield, Calif./Foothill High School) had a goal called back due to a foul on the goalkeeper.
MSU Denver held the advantage in corner kickers 4-2 at the end of regulation, however the game headed to overtime with a 0-0 tie.
Just minutes into the overtime period, freshman goalkeeper
Erica Torres (Bakersfield, Calif./Baskersfield High School) made a spectacular save on a Patriots rush to keep the Roadrunners alive. Dallas Baptist maintained the pressure throughout the first half of the overtime but the Roadrunners defense held strong to keep the Patriots off the board.
With three minutes remaining in overtime, the Roadrunners had another solid chance off a corner kick by senior
Elise Boisnard (Denver, Colo./Wheat Ridge H.S.) that was nearly headed in but saved by Dallas Baptist goalkeeper, Hope Koym. The game finished in a 0-0 tie after two full overtime periods.
Torres finished the game with six saves, in her second shutout of the 2016 season.
The Roadrunners will next face Western Washington in Bellingham, Washington on September 8.
