Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's soccer team tied Colorado Mesa University 0-0 Friday, September 30. The Roadrunners are now 3-3-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mavericks are now 4-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.
The Roadrunners came out of the gate with fire, pressuring the Mavericks defense throughout the first half. The best Roadrunner chance came early with two consecutive shots. Freshman
Kaylee Mackenzie (Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills High School)'s shot was blocked and Freshman
Gricelda Gomez (Baskersfield, Calif./Foothill High School) was there to get a follow up shot off that was saved by Maverick goal keeper, Katelyn Houston. The Roadrunners out shot the Mavericks 6-2 with two of those on goal in the first half.
Colorado Mesa pressured the Roadrunner defense early and throughout the second half, outshooting MSU Denver 5-1 with shots on goal. Freshman goal keeper
Erica Torres (Bakersfield, Calif./Baskersfield High School) made five saves for the Roadrunners in the second half to bring the match into overtime.
The match remained tied at zero with neither team seeing many chances in both overtimes. Each side took two shots but no saves were made.
The Roadrunners are back in action Sunday October 2 at 12 p.m. against Westminster College.
