Tennis: Roadrunners Set to Begin 2016 Season at Pueblo Duals

Roadrunners travel to Pueblo to open the fall season

Denver-  The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's and women's tennis teams start off the 2016 season Friday, September 9 at the Pueblo Duals. Both will face off against Texas-Permian Basin and Nebraska Kearney.
 
The MSU Denver men's tennis team finished the 2015-16 season 9-16, 2-2 in the RMAC overall. The Roadrunners return seven to their roster and welcome three newcomers. The team brings back three of its six players selected for all-RMAC honors for the 2015-16 season. Sophomore Joey Tscherne (Sylmar, Calif./John F. Kennedy H.S.) earned first team all-RMAC as a freshman in both singles and doubles. Junior Brandon Nachbar (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon Campus) was selected first team all-RMAC for doubles and second team all-RMAC for singles. Junior Callum Hayes was named RMAC honorable mention in singles. The men will begin play at 8 a.m. against Texas-Permian Basin Friday and face off again at 11:30 a.m. against Nebraska Kearney.
 
The MSU Denver's women's tennis team finished the 2016 season 7-17, 2-2 in the RMAC standings. The Roadrunners welcome five newcomers to the 2016-17 roster and return five. Juniors Emily Keer and Courtney Wright (Houston, Texas/Memorial H.S.) were selected first team all-RMAC in both doubles and singles for the 2015-16 season. Joining them was Junior Linying Xiao (Guilin, China/St. Mary's Academy (Colo.)) who was selected second team all-RMAC for both singles and doubles. Head coach Daniel Hangstefer was name women's RMAC co-coach of the year. The Roadrunners will begin play at 10 a.m. Friday against Texas-Permian Basin and later face Nebraska Kearney at 12:30 p.m.
