Pueblo, Colo. – The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team was defeated by No. 8 CSU-Pueblo on Friday night 66-49. The loss drops the Roadrunners to 9-8 overall and 5-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
MSU Denver was led by
Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.) with a double-double tallying 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Georgia Ohrdorf (Wollongong, Australia/St. Mary Star of the Sea College) and
Jonalyn Wittwer (Fall Creek, Wis./Fall Creek H.S.) each added 10 points.
Scoring was hard to come by early in the contest with both teams managing only six points each in the first quarter. The second quarter saw the scoring pick up with MSU Denver putting up 15 points and CSU-Pueblo adding 21 points. The Roadrunners trailed at the half 27-21.
In the third quarter, MSU Denver was able to trim the CSU-Pueblo lead to three on multiple occasions, however, the Roadrunners would not be able to get any closer. MSU Denver would struggle to score in the final period, making only three baskets from the field in the final quarter.
The Roadrunners will take on N.M. Highlands on Saturday, January 14 in Las Vegas, N.M. at 5 p.m.
