Gunnison, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team defeated Western State 70-65 on Saturday night. The Roadrunners improved to 12-7 overall and 8-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mountaineers fell to 4-13 overall and 3-10 in conference.
Four Roadrunners ended in the double figures; Senior
Andre Harris (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb H.S.) led all scoreres with 22 points and 15 rebounds, Senior
Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) added 20 points, juniors
Cameron Williams (Omaha, Neb./South High School ) and Shane fox added 10 points for the Roadrunners. The team shot 50 percent from the field and held Western State to 37 percent. The Roadrunners out rebounded the Mountaineers 36-31.
The Roadrunners were quick to get on the board with Harris and Howard scoring the first five points of the game to put the Roadrunners up 5-0.
The Mountaineers responded quickly tying the game up going on an 13-3 run and taking the lead from the Roadrunners, leading 13-22 with 12:12 to go in the half.
The Roadrunners fought back to cut the lead to two at 34-32 going into half. Harris led the Roadrunners with 12 points at half.
MSU Denver controlled the second half taking the lead three minutes into the half after a three scored from Howard. That kick started a 17-1 run for MSU Denver, taking a 14-point lead with 12:13 to go.
MSU Denver continued to control the momentum of the game leading by as many as 20 and gained the win 75-60.
The Roadrunners take on UCCS Tuesday, January 24 at 7:30 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
