Colorado Spring, Colo.- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team fell to UCCS on Tuesday night 92-82. The Roadrunners fell to 12-8 overall and 8-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mountain Lions improved to 8-11 overall and 7-7 in conference.
The Roadrunners were led by senior
Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) and freshmen
Allec Williams (Albany, Ga./Westover High School ) who both had 18 points. Senior
Andre Harris (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb H.S.) finished the game with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Sophomore Enrique Cortés Zotes added 16 points and 5 rebounds.The Mountain Lions were led by Blend Avdilli with 21 points and TreShawn Wilford who added 18.
MSU Denver shot 40 percent from the field in the game while UCCS shot 50 percent. There was a combined total of 64 free-throws taken in the game. The Roadrunners went 22-25 from the line and the Mountain Lions shot 29-39.
UCCS came out on fire on its home court going on an 11-2 run to start the game. MSU Denver didn't score its first field goal until nearly seven minutes into the half, when
Allec Williams (Albany, Ga./Westover High School ) scored a jumper to make the score 11-6.
UCCS was able to keep the lead for the remainder of the half. The Mountain Lions led by as many as 16 in the first half at 25-41 with 2:34 to go in the half.
The Roadrunners would go on an 11-3 run to end the half led by
Allec Williams (Albany, Ga./Westover High School ) who had 14 of the Roadrunners 35 points. The Mountain Lions led by eight going into halftime, 44-36. UCCS shot 52 percent in the half while the Roadrunners shot 38 percent.
MSU Denver carried the energy into the second half going on a 13-3 run in the first five minutes of the second half. Senior
Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) gave the Roadrunners their first lead of the game after converting a four-point play to give his team the lead at 49-47.
The game went back and forth with six lead changes in six minutes. The Roadrunners made a break through 9:30 left in the half when Cortés Zotes buried one from beyond the arch to give the Roadrunners a 64-60 lead.
UCCS went on an 14-3 run to take the lead 74-69 with 4:57 left in the game. The Mountain Lions maintained the lead throughout the rest of the game and take the win 92-82.
The Roadrunners return home to take on Westminster on Saturday, January 28 at 7 p.m.
