Men’s Basketball: Roadrunners Soar Past Skyhawks

Williams led Roadrunners with 28 points

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team (10-4, 6-2 RMAC) defeated Fort Lewis (12-3, 7-2 RMAC) 80-65.
 
Both sides came out ready to play with the score remaining close early in the first half. Juniors Cameron Williams (Omaha, Neb./South High School ) and Peter Moller had the first 12 points for the Roadrunners with Moller posting seven and Williams contributing five. After trailing by four, a three pointer by junior Sunday Dech (Perth, Australia/Churchlands H.S.) and a dunk by senior Andre Harris (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb H.S.) put the Roadrunners on a 15-2 run and gained the momentum ten minutes into the half with a nine-point lead.
 
The Skyhawks answered back cutting the lead to one with under a minute to go in the half. At the end of the first half the Roadrunners led the Skyhawks 36-33. Williams and Dech both led the Roadrunners with 10 points each.  The Roadrunners out rebounded the Skyhawks 21-14.  
 
The Roadrunners came out in the second half ready to run. MSU Denver had a run of 11-0 giving them a lead of 56-42. The Skyhawks couldn't keep up as the Roadrunners held momentum and the lead throughout the half, taking the game 80-65.
 
Williams led all scorers with 28 points and added 7 boards. Dech finished with 18 points and eight rebounds. Both teams shot 41 percent from the field. The Roadrunners out rebounded the Skyhawks 48-30.
                                                                                                                                           
The Roadrunners will be back in action tomorrow night where they will face Adams State at 7 p.m. at the Auraria Event Center.
