Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver men's basketball team (10-4, 6-2 RMAC) fell to Adams State 85-81 (5-7, 2-6 RMAC) on Friday night.
The edge went to MSU Denver to start the game, as the Roadrunners went on an 8-0 run with junior
Cameron Williams (Omaha, Neb./South High School ) scoring a quick five. The momentum remained in favor of the Roadrunners for the upcoming minutes going on a 7-0 run to gain an 11-point lead with 13 minutes to go in the half, however following a Roadrunner foul and two converted Grizzlies free throws Adams State went on an 8-0 run and was able to get the game within one.
The Grizzlies fought to bring the score within three with just over two minutes to go in the half after a 6-0 run. But after a three pointer by sophomore Enrique Cortes-Zotes and a buzzer beater layup from Junior Peter Moller the Roadrunners went into half on top 47-41. Dech led the Roadrunners at half with 14 points. MSU Denver shot 47 percent from the field while the Grizzlies shot 50 percent from the field.
The Grizzlies gained their first lead of the game five minutes into the second half after an 11-3 run to start the half. After being down by 6 with 10 minutes to go, Williams converted a three-point play to put the Roadrunners within two. Cortes-Zotes then went on to make two free throws to tie the game at 61-61 with 9:41 to go in the game.
MSU Denver regained the lead 67-64 with 7:12 to go after a made layup and two made free throws from Williams. Each side exchanged points until an 8-0 Grilly run with under five minutes to go gave them their largest lead of the game at 76-69.
Senior
Brian Howard (Maywood, Ill./Saint Ignatius H.S.) made a three pointer to get the game within one with 59 second to go however after several made free throws from Adams State the Roadrunners fell 85-81.
Dech finished a double double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Williams finished with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
The Roadrunners travel to Pueblo Friday, January 7 to take on CSU-Pueblo at 7:30 p.m.
