Women’s Basketball: Roadrunner Lose Battle to Skyhawks

Ohrdorf posts double double for Roadrunners

Denver- The Metropolitan State University of Denver women's basketball team (8-7, 4-4 RMAC) fell 69-59 to Fort Lewis (12-2, 7-2 RMAC) on Friday, January 6.
 
Junior Georgia Ohrdof started the game off for the Roadrunners scoring the first four points of the game. MSU Denver controlled most of the first quarter holding the lead for over half of the quarter. However, the quarter ended close at 13-12 in favor of the Roadrunners. MSU Denver never lead by more than four points in the quarter. Ohrdorf had five of the 12 Roadrunners points in the quarter.
 
The second quarter was a battle between the two sides with there being six lead changes in the quarter. The Skyhawks led by as many as two in the half while the largest lead for the Roadrunners came in the last minute of the half when the Roadrunners went on a 6-0 run to gain the lead and ended the first half on top 28-25. The Skyhawks shot 50 percent from the field in the second quarter while holding the Roadrunners to 32 percent. MSU Denver out rebounded Fort Lewis 24-12 in the first half.
 
Fort Lewis put the pressure on in the third quarter out-scoring MSU Denver 20-13 and taking a six point lead on several occasions in the quarter. The Roadrunners cut the lead to four at 45-41 to bring momentum into the fourth quarter.
 
The fourth quarter proved to be a tight battle between the two teams with each side exchanging buckets. The Skyhawks went on a 12-1 run to take a nine-point lead making it its largest of the game thus far. Despite an effort for a Roadrunners comeback the Skyhawks were able to seal the deal 59-69.
 
The Roadrunners were led by Ohrdorf who posted a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore Jaelynn Smith (Denver, Colo./East H.S.) added 18 points for the team. MSU Denver shot 32 percent from the field while the Skyhawks shot 39 percent.  The Roadrunners out rebounded the Skyhawks 43-35.
 
MSU Denver hosts Adams State tomorrow at 5 p.m.
